About Me

My name is Russell and I live in San Antonio, Texas. I am fifteen years old and I am a freshman in high school. While most kids are playing video games, I am cooking. Food has always been a passion on mine. By the age of twelve, I had taken over the responsibility of dinner for my family and from there I have never stopped cooking.  I love to experiment in the kitchen whether it be simple flavors or gastronomic creations.

As I have  grown older I have developed a certain respect for food and nutrition. For me this is learning the balance between the sustenance which food provides for our bodies and the  joy which certain, less healthy, foods bring me. I am active and have a passion for running and cross country. Therefore, I need to fuel my body with nutritious food on a daily basis, but I am not going give up certain foods I love. Therefore I plan to mix healthy and indulgent recipes on this blog. Enjoy!

  1. It’s nice to see someone as young as you passionate about food! Think I’ll follow your journey…

  2. Hey Russell, as a kid, my favorite after school tv was “Great Chef, Great Cities” on PBS. I benefited greatly from the “stand and stir” cooking programs of my day. The information that went forth has stayed with me and been used time and time again. Cheers, man!

  4. Could you come live at my house? 😉 There is a serious lack of motivation to cook on a regular basis. I’ll bet your family LOVES that you do all the cooking and put such care into it.

  5. Extremely impressive. You make me feel terrible about my own cooking (see microwaved egg sandwich) but also inspired to get to work making some real dishes. Keep it up homie!

  6. Hi Russell! Thanks for stopping by my blog and for the flattering comment. I actually started learning to cook seriously around your age, but you’re miles ahead of where I was. Are you considering culinary school at all?

  7. Hey Russell, I think you have a great blog here – I am really impressed with your cooking skills and knowledge. The love for cooking for me started when I was about 27…but you are so brilliant at such an early age! It really makes me happy to see a teenager being passionate about something other than Television and aimless browsing on the internet. Your recipes are versatile and creative…following your blog!

  8. How fabulous that your food adventures have begun at such a young age (relatively to this writer, is all I mean). Thanks for your visit to The Nutrition Doctor is In the Kitchen ~ I hope I can be of culinary inspiration to you as well as a source for sound science. We both share a love of running, I see, as well… Cheers, PKN

  9. I love your blog, there are so many recipes I would love to try. Thanks for popping by The Puffin Diaries, I’m going to show my son your site as I think he’ll love it too. I reckon the mussels recipe might go down well as he loves mussels. Keep cooking and blogging, you write beautifully as well. x

  10. Hi Russell: Thanks for taking an interest in my blog and I love your About Me page. I am so glad you enjoy cooking. Preparing food with love and a joyful heart is one of the best occupations in life. Keep on cooking!

  11. A very wonderful skill is to know how to cook! I enjoy it too but do it on a smaller scale these days. I love cooking with seasonal and local foods, I remember my first cooking experience as a very little girl on the farm. While my parents were working out in the barn I took everything….and I mean everything….. out of the fridge and put it on the table….so supper would be ready for my parents when they came in from chores. I soon got the job of scrubbing potatoes etc and this led to bigger and better things!
I expect to be seeing your cooking in cookbooks, television or restaurants soon! Awesome young man!

  12. Way to go Russell! It’s so fun to see how we share a similar philosophy of food and cooking. My mom ignited my passion for great food as part of a healthy and happy life. There was never a doubt in my mind that I would study nutrition. Now, it’s with great joy and enthusiasm that I share my passion with others. I hope you continue to grow and share your health and happiness. With warm aloha, Jill

    • Thank you! That is really great that you were always so interested in nutrition and even better that you share your knowledge with others. I am also jealous that you live in Hawaii, my favorite place ever!
